The Heart of the
Matter is Always Love
There is no
question that we live in interesting times. With the
ever-increasing advances in technology, you can keep on
top of things live, up-close and personal -- even from
your cell phone! I am beginning to wonder if this is
really as helpful as the techno-geeks would have us
believe. I find as I plug into the current of the world,
my blood pressure tends to climb...
As technology
continues to move ahead with lightning speed (what is
blue tooth anyway??), what arrives in our living rooms or
car or computer or blackberry are the images and sounds
of a world in great conflict. It is apparent that humans
don't seem to be evolving as quickly as technology. Every
day we watch as incredible scenes of violence, cruelty
and injustice play out in scenario after scenario across
the world. Many humans, it would seem, have never learned
how to play nice. And, much of it erupts in the name of
religion. All of it disturbs us in a deep
place.
It is complicated.
And much of what is reported is filtered through
newsreporters with a certain slant or agenda. It hard to
know what is true, or why people behave the way they do.
In this information age we are bombarded and overloaded
and increasingly more fearful.
Someone wise once
observed that the opposite of Love isn't hate, but fear.
Think about that for a minute and you'll see how true
this is. Hate isn't pleasant as emotions go, but fear...
well, fear can paralyze even the most hateful person!
When we are
fearful, we shut down. We don't ask questions. We go into
survival mode. And on small scales and grand arenas those
who are creating the fears have all the power. Think
about that! It is like the world is in the hands of
bullies who take our lunch money or threaten our security
or the things that are important to us if we say anything
-- and we feel ever more helpless and depressed.
Ok. It doesn't take
much thought to identify who the bullies are in our
personal lives and in the greater world. The good news is
that you can do something right now to make a difference
-- and you don't even have to leave your
chair.
If you are feeling
fearful, then the key is to connect to Love. The creative
power of Love is greater than any other thing. You may
call Love "God", "Yahweh", "Allah", "Jesus","Higher
Power", "Goddess", "Divinity" --it matters not. Aligning
with this infinite source of all goodness and positive
energy is to know power in the most potent form. From
this place of Love, you will discover, there is NO
judgement or condemnation.
This is a
challenge, because people we know and respect say they
have the answers and the knowledge that are crucial to
our well-being. Religious leaders of all denominations
tell us that by following certain rules, we are assured
of pardon and God's love. Political leaders tell us that
by following their plan of action we will be free of
terror and war.
Um... how is it
working for them?
The one true thing
that I have come to understand is that what we put our
attention on magnifies. If we think, "let's end terror"
we draw more terrorists. If we think, "let's not sin or
break rules" you get the breaking news of some powerful
evangelist in the arms of a prostitute, or our lives are
fraught with temptations...
When we focus on
Love in all its fullness, there is no room for fear, or
what-ifs, or the threats of bullies. And the real power
of our lives is revealed -- joy, healing, insights and
the realization of our gifts. When we turn away from the
fearful thoughts, then we are free to focus on what is
really important -- our connection to one another in
loving and positive ways.
What affects one
person on this planet affects us all. When one person is
afraid or hungry or in pain, then there is truly a ripple
in the force. It is time that we all took responsibility
to do what we can to beam love and light to all. This is
more effective than we can measure with human
understanding.
Prayer is an
intention connected with Love. When we pray, we are
sending out into the ethers thoughts that trigger an
action. So, we pray for peace. We visualize everyone on
the planet smiling and having enough. We see the animals
and plant worlds thriving. We send the whole world our
blessings.
If enough people
held this image in their minds a few times a day, we
would see a transformation taking place before our eyes.
Fear would diminish and we would see how empty the
bullies really are. With the increase of joy and peace,
there would be no need to send more troops here and
there.
This is not a
pie-in-the-sky theory. Thoughts have energy and can be
measured. Thoughts have a frequency and a vibration.
Thoughts are creative. And when they are teamed up with
others and connected to Love, the World will
change.
What will you
create with your thoughts?
More on this next
month.
